Will Ellis

Will Ellis is a photographer based in Brooklyn NY. He's the author of Abandon NYC and created AbandonedNYC.com. He's into photographing forgotten places in the US. His photography has appeared in print and online in publications such as New York Times, New York Magazine, Slate, and Architectural Digest. Ellis has also lectured at the New York Public Library, Brooklyn's Morbid Anatomy Museum, St. Johns University and the Apple Store at Grand Central Station.

He has other interesting projects on his online site. Urban Artifacts are a pretty interesting collection. I love his use of light and shadows in his photographs and colors that are in the last two photos. I can truly see how this photographer has made these abandon houses and places apart of his art. The second photo of the house has this cold and eerie feel to it. the birds flying about the building and  the color itself gives off this cold and emptiness in the photo.

The third photo of the house is perfectly framed by the tree branches and the shadows of the late evening. This is another photo that demonstrates how abandoned, lonely, and forgotten this place is.

  1. I think that this would be a really cool artist to appropriate for our next project. It be very interesting to see what kind of abandoned places you can find around the area.

  2. These pictures truly catch the eye. Almost as if they are a still from a movie. I do feel as though that it would be interesting to make this apart of your project.

  3. How incredibly serendipitous. I have recently come across a possible location: a former half-way house in moderate disarray. I'll have to do some research into this artist for some inspiration.
