Fabio Bucciarelli

A lot of this photographers work is based out of southern sudan. I find most of his work very powerful. Some you even wonder if his life might be in danger, but he still manages to stay calm and capture the picture. It has a very journalistic approach to it, yet the images are still somewhat amazing to look at. Its as if he has managed to disappear, and just be a fly on the wall to this conflict going on.

Francesco Tonelli

I love taking pictures of food and happen to stumble across this photographer Francesco Tonelli, a former chef from Italy that decided to use his hands in a different manner.  He used his understanding and passion for food by capturing it in his photographs.  He works on various projects such as cookbooks and working with food companies like Chobani Yogurt, Ruth Chris Steakhouse etc....

Gideon Barnet

Gideon Barnet is an artist from Tennessee. His work is extremely interesting. The first example of his work is from his series called "Bones". The photographs have these bones that are smacked right up in the frame, but once you really look into the photograph, there is other really eye catching details. For example, there's a man in the background. I also found his other two examples interesting because it seems like parts of the photographs were ripped out, and something else being added in that place. I see a consistent concept of a photograph being inside another photograph with his work.

Amy Stein

Amy Stein

Amy Stain is an American photographer known for her series Domesticated, Stranded, Women With Guns, and Halloween in Harlem. Stein's photos have a tableau feel to them. In her photos she tries to take what we see as traditional and make us think in a new way.

Jeff Wall

Jeff walls is a photographer from Canada who creates pictures that have a narrative from it. In a way it looks like the moments he photographs were created by him because of the tone of his photos and his lighting. But the moments he photograph could very easily be just occurances that happened and people he met. His pictures have a very grand look to them without the use of heavily saturated colors.

SARAH KAUFMAN!

The selected photos by Sarah Kaufman were used as a reference for my series project. With her as an influence, and Todd Hido,  I feel as if I have pinpointed my subject matter and can now go on to "perfect" it.

Lydia Goldblatt

Lydia's project Still Here seems to focus on old age, death and time. She does this though portraits, some of which aren't of the face at all and small objects like decaying flowers or a watch. She also uses depth of field as a way to communicate also which I think works very well since the work clearly speaks for itself. As a whole the work uses a lot of shadow which can either obscure or become a cause  for contemplation.

Christian Patterson

Christian Patterson

Christian Patterson was born in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. He is a self taught photographer, and usually has written text, paintings, drawings and objects in his series. In most of his series, it has some ties to home. In "Bottom of the Lake" it is of his home town. This is interesting that he continues the theme of home and age through all his pictures. This is similar to the style and themes that I want to build upon. The place I came from is how I came to be. I love my home and my little town, that I tend to compare the places I stay to home.

Dina Goldstein

I found Dina Goldstein's work amazing. Her series,  In The Dollhouse,  is a unique way of capturing the relationship of Barbie and Ken. The way she is able to transform these models into dolls, amazes me the most. Goldstein didn't take the photos, she made the photos. Her set took time to build. She made sure she had the right models, the right outfits, and the right furniture in order to make her photos more believable. The details, the lighting, and the angle at which each photo is capture from, makes it hard for viewers to look away. I feel as though you can keep looking at these photos and find other details that you missed before.

Robert Brook

Robert Brook is a British photographer that is an excellent night photographer. He uses the natural light of the area to capture the near by landscape or subject. The style of his photos looks dreamy and almost unreal. This is only intensified by the extreme contrast of light and dark on the subject. This is something I have been trying to perfect for a while

Sagan Lockhart

Sagan Lockhart is a photographer that is young but has already made his emergence on the scene. He is affiliated with a group of young people which include rappers, singers, skateboarders and more named Odd Future. I chose him as an artist because of the type of content he often has. He tends to take lots of pictures of not only the famous friends of his, but also his regular ones. His photos are so compelling to me because his photos tell stories a lot of his photos are in the moment, and the lot of the faces are familiar.

Alec Sloth

This Artist has explored a series titled "Sleeping by the Mississippi." What I enjoy about this series that I think is working very well is that almost all of the portraits he takes of people, are clearly pre arranged, but they are obviously something that the people could be caught doing regularly, like they are captured in an event that defines them somehow. The series also dives a lot into religion indirectly by merely exploring the people and their life. Another fact that I find interesting.

Caleb Charland

I find these images by Caleb Charland to be very compelling. He is showing us the ability to take basic household images and manipulate them into interesting compositions. He is also utilizing long exposures and doing something as simple as moving a candle every couple of minutes or bouncing a light up ball and capturing it's motion. Here's an example of making photos and Charland is showing us that even the simplest of things can turn out to be interesting.

Erika Larsen is a National Geographic documentary photographer. She is documenting the Nez Perce Native American culture in relation to the significance of the horse. The photos are featured in the March 2014 issue of National Geographic. The first photo is a portrait of the horse Sikem. The horse is known to be a part of the family in Nez Perce culture and are introduced early in childhood. The photos show how the horses are appreciated. The photos are clear and sharp with various ranges of depths of field. The colors are vivid but true to the subject.

Cass Bird

Cass Bird is a female fashion photographer in New York. Her work displays a cool carefree style to her protfolio. This can also been seen in her book she published which illustrates wild, free space someone could be comfortable in. I love her style and sense of emotion that can be seen in her photographs. Cass is known for her work in advertising, editorial, and covers of New York Times style Magazine. Recently she photographed the cover art for Pharrell Williams new album Girls. She is also a credited director.
