Brandon Mabrouk-Weekly Artist Post 1

Julia Autz is a german photographer who captures young people that are living in a Moldovan territory which use to be apart of the Soviet Union. They are trying to seek entry back into the Russian territory to discover an uncertain future. Moldova is recognized as one of the poorest countries in Europe since their independence was lost in 1991.

Autz's was introduced to the people of Transnistria, they introduced her to everyday life, being in a state where there is no history and difficulties are presented to newer generations that are in the process of trying to create new beginnings, this is difficult to do if there is no encouragement around. Autz states "While staying there I got to know a lot of people who introduced me to their everyday lives - in a state without a nation, without a history, without a sorted present and a foreseeable future."

Her pictures capture people that have not changed for centuries, also the younger generation who will follow in the footsteps on the elderly if they have no guidence. I began to realize that Autz was concerned about the well being of the youth because of the types of influences that surrounded them. The photos gave me an opportunity to recognize that Julia Autz has a traditional way of capturing her work and they teach a lesson at the same time.
