“A
lot of people seem to think that art or photography is about the way
things look, or the surface of things. That's not what it's about for
me. It's really about relationships and feelings...it's really hard
for me to do commercial work because people kind of want me to do a
Nan Goldin. They don't understand that it's not about a style or a
look or a setup. It's about emotional obsession and empathy” -Nan
Goldin
To
me, Goldin's work is the truth. She captures life around her in a
snap-shot kind of way. I really enjoy looking at her photographs. Her
photos are quite intriguing to where you don't want to stop viewing
them. Her photographs seem to create a relatable scenario, even if
you haven't personally experienced it. I feel as though her work can
bring out emotions that she intended for her viewers to have. Her
work captures subjects that most people aren't comfortable in
discussing out loud. Sex, abuse, drag queens, are just some of the
images that she has capture. Her work is quite inspiring to me,
giving me more motivation to take my camera out everywhere and
capture the memories.
