Abelardo Morell

Abelardo Morell was born in Havana, Cuba in 1948 and immigrated with his family to the United States in 1962. The images below are from the series titled Childhood and are all in black and white. I find these images to be compelling because the absence of color causes us to use our imagination to fill in the spaces. Based on our knowledge, we get somewhat of a sense of the colors, but I personally want to know the colors verbatim. Questioning and the need to know more is what makes an image successful. Color provides insight to the scene itself, but removed shows the scene in an alternate, almost mysterious type of way.
