Karl Hugo Schmolz

Upon my research, I happened across Karl Hugo Schmolz, a famous architectural photographer from Germany. He was born in 1917 and his father was also an architectural photographer, hence he began his photography practice at an early age. I have always taken a liking to architectural photography because of the possibilities that the geometric shapes of the buildings can offer. He's like the Frank Lloyd Wright of architectural photography in the way that he captures his photos. So many of them are from a strange and awkward angle or positioned so that even a perfectly square building can look lopsided. I normally shoot in color because I like finding the relationships in between colors in photos but Schmolz shot only in black and white and it truly elevated his work to a higher level, a level that I'd like to achieve one day.
