Guy Bourdin, a French fashion photographer was controversial and broke the barriers of the conventional fashion photography. His images are very stylized and considered daring-setting up the stage for today's fashion photographers. He studied with Man Ray and adopted some of his mannerisms. Bourdin was one of the first to create a complex narrative that created an emotion tied to a piece of fashion. His images are interesting and different. There is definitely a relation to today's fashion photography-why does society criticize images today when Bourdin scratched and torn down the surface of the shock factor.
