Brandon Mabrouk-Artist Post 5

Walter Rothwell is a London-based photographer who has been partially blind since he was ten years old. After an accident that led to his difficulties of seeing out of his left eye, he became accustomed to viewing the world and photography differently. Just recently his retina was detached from his left eye, which left him completely blind. Having great eyesight is an important tool when it comes to photography but Rothwell found a way to make photos that he enjoyed.

Rothwell's work includes him capturing a combination of people and animals with beautiful landscapes in some photos. In the last 7 years he has captured these photos, exploring certain parts of the middle east, Asia, and Europe. He began making photos of cats in the city of Cairo, Egypt. He became known as the crazy cat photographer as the people would alert him around the city if they were encountered with cats or any other animals.

I am amazed by the hardships that Rothwell has overcame, his difficulties are what makes his work more intriguing in my opinion. Its shows that it is more of a passion for him to continue to capture the  cats or the children playing in the streets. I definitely could learn from his work and how to be patient when making a photo at the perfect time.

  1. Love the simplicity and gray scale of his photo. Pretty amazing for being blind.
